Description
This is a GPS attachment for my colour MP3 player. It uses the Trimble Lassen SQ receiver module available from www.roundsolutions.com. This is a very small, low power GPS, perfect for this application. This project is currently under work. To start the GPS software, hold down the select button at startup, this will enable the GPS monitoring, currently it displays Longitude, Latitude, number of satellites in view, and speed over ground.

How it works
The GPS module was setup to output NMEA messages every second. these are read by the MP3 player via the serial port and the relevant information extracted. The wires under the antenna are to make a virtual ground plane, this greatly increased the reliability and number of satellites in view. The black thing on the back is 2 button batteries used to keep the last position when power off. This make the GPS 'warm' start in about 20 seconds, without it, it would 'cold' start which takes about 15minuits!
My plan is to add digital colour maps to the MMC card in the MP3 player, then display the map with current location on the display..this is mainly what I had in mind when making an MP3 player with a colour screen!
